Topic Guidelines
A. Your topic must have happened at least ten years ago in order for it to be considered as a world history topic. Talk to Mr. H if you have an idea that you want to study that is more recent for approval.
B. You must be able to conduct original research. Original research means conducting an interview, collecting data through surveys, or observations.
Answer these questions to help you select your independent project topic.
1. What are your top two topics you want to research and why? (Only one topic is chosen)
A.
B.
2. How do these topics relate to world history? Convince me these are good topics.
3. List five credible sources found on the internet. Use Google and type “site:.edu” or “site:.org” after your search term to browse websites that only end in .edu or .org. Sites that end with .edu are credible and most .org cites. Do not use Wikipedia.org!
4. Use the Media Center website to find five book sources you could use. This link will allow you to look at other school’s library catalogs in addition to Southwests'. Books from other schools can be requested and sent to Southwest for you to read so don’t limit yourself to Southwest’s library.
5. Create a file on your desktop titled “Independent Project.” Keep all research materials and assignments related to your project here. That includes saving this document to this folder.
6. Email this document to me at alexander.hoselton@mpls.k12.mn.us . Please attach it to the email.
